Cal Poly vs. UCLA gets record crowd
You ready for College LIVE! round two?
This week we’ll have a LIVE! showing of defending Atlantic 10 Conference champion Saint Louis against Drake on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 7:15 p.m. CST. Tune in for what’s sure to be a great match.
Now for a look back at this past week …
{mosvideo:350}Marquee Match: No. 4 Portland women vs. No. 6 Texas A&M(w). The Pilots took a 1-0 victory in Friday’s evening match, getting a score from Halley Kreminski in the 65th minute. Goalkeeper Hailey DeYoung made a few key diving saves to keep the program undefeated at 9-0-0.
8,717 is a crowd: The Cal Poly and UCLA men played in front of the 10th largest crowd in NCAA soccer history Friday night when the teams battled to a 0-0 tie. It was the first meeting between the programs since they faced off in the 2008 NCAA Tournament and the rematch lived up to the hype with an electric atmosphere. And who says they don’t draw college soccer crowds on the west coast?
All she can be: Army freshman Kim An is making a major impression out in West Point. On Sunday she notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season in a 1-0 win over Fairfield and she has the Black Knights off to a 7-2-0 start to the season. Not a bad start to her collegiate career. The Cal Poly vs. UCLA crowd at Alex G. Spanos Stadium. Photo by Ray Ambler.
On the flip side, it was a good win for the No. 36 Gauchos who had gotten off to a slow start.
Get Well: Some unfortunate injury news on the women’s side, some of it belated, includes Florida State’s Jessica Price and Tiffany McCarty, both of whom were forced to redshirt this season due to ailments. Minnesota defender Jennie Clark is still out indefinitely with a broken collarbone and Notre Dame’s talented midfielder Courtney Barg is day-to-day with an old preseason injury.
Oklahoma State star Annika Niemeier is attempting to get a medical hardship that would allow her to come back and play in a sixth year next season as a grad student after she tore her ACL in the year’s second game. Niemeier also redshirted as a freshman and is scheduled to graduate in December.
