Cal State Fullerton Defeats CSU Bakersfield 1-0
FULLERTON, Calif.--Nikki McCants scored on the first shot of the match and that proved to be enough for Cal State Fullerton (7-7-2) to defeat CSU Bakesfield (3-11-1) 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium.
McCants took a long pass from Janali West, stayed onsides and slipped the ball past Kym Gause (Sr., Manteca, Calif., Modesto JC) at 7:14 for the gamewinner. The Titans outshot the Roadrunners 16-8 (6-2 on goal) as Gause made five saves.
“I commend the effort of our team to push in the second half,” said CSUB head coach Melissa Phillips. “But we were missing a technical composure in front of goal. Unfortunately we were punished by an early mistake.”
The Roadrunners return home Thursday to host UC Davis at 7 p.m. in the final home match of the 2011 campaign.
