Cambridge, Mass. - Seven members of the Stony Brook women’s soccer team were honored by the America East on Wednesday as All-Conference performers. Redshirt junior Ashley Castanio (Oceanside, N.Y.) was named the America East Goalkeeper of the Year, while senior Larissa Nysch (Dresher, Pa.) and sophomoreStella Norman (Lakewood, Colo.) joined Castanio as first-team All-Conference selections.

Sophomore Tessa Devereaux (Fayetteville, N.Y.) was also honored as a second-team All-Conference choice, while freshmen Christina Fluman (Pittsford, N.Y.), Maxie New (Clayton, N.J.) and Leah Yurko(Cumberland, Md.) were named to the All-Rookie Team.

Castanio leads all America East keepers with 86 saves this season to go along with a 1.09 GAA and a .819 save percentage. Castanio posted three of her four shutouts in conference play and held America East opponents to one goal or less in six of eight conference matches. In Sunday’s 2-1 victory at Maine, Castanio turned aside a career-high 13 shots as Stony Brook clinched its first-ever regular season conference title.

Nysch finished the regular season as the conference’s leading scorer with 10 goals and 24 points. Nysch also ranks second in the America East in shots (61) and game-winning goals (4), while ranking third in assists (4). On Oct. 20, Nysch became just the sixth player in program history to record 50 career points with a goal in a 2-0 win at Binghamton.

Norman leads all America East defenders with five goals and 16 points. A set-piece specialist, Norman ranks second in the conference with six assists and third in points per game (0.94).  On Aug. 25 against Fairleigh Dickinson, Norman became the first Seawolf to record three assists in a game since the program joined the America East in 2001.

A unanimous All-Rookie selection last year, Devereaux is putting together another sound season as a sophomore. In her role as the team’s primary midfield playmaker, Devereaux has a goal and two assists so far this season. Devereaux is one of just six players on the team to start every game this season.

Stony Brook was one of just two teams (Hartford) to place three players on the All-Rookie Team. New and Yurko are tied for fourth on the team with seven points each, while Fluman, who spent time as both a defender and a forward, ranks eighth on the squad with five points. All three players garnered America East Rookie of the Week honors during the regular season.

The Seawolves (11-5-1) will host an America East Semifinal game on Sunday at LaValle Stadium at 2 p.m. Stony Brook will face the winner of No. 3 Maine and No. 6 Binghamton, which will be played Thursday in Orono, Maine. Stony Brook will be looking for its second straight America East title after winning the conference as a six seed a season ago.
