EVANSTON, Ill. -- A pair of juniors scored goals in the second half Sunday at Lakeside Field as the Wildcats captured the 2-0 victory over Dartmouth. Georgia Waddle tallied her first goal of the season in the 51st minute while Katie Landgrebe provided another in the 74th minute to seal the NU victory. Freshman goalkeeper Jenna Hascher made six saves in net to earn her first career shutout.

"I thought it was a good team effort," Northwestern head coach Michael Moynihan said. "We put a lot into the game on Thursday, so a couple of people were dinged up and tired. I thought we went pretty deep and a lot of people contributed. In the second half, I thought we implemented our game plan a little bit better than we did in the first half and that resulted in two nice goals and some other good chances that we had that we weren’t able to finish. Overall, I’m very pleased."

Sunday was a special day at Lakeside Field as the Wildcats welcomed back a number of former players and coaches for Alumni Weekend. The program specifically honored the 15th anniversary of the 1998 squad, a team that recorded a school-record 16 victories and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

"I'm very excited that we could win in front of the 1998 team and get our first victory," Moynihan added. "The whole weekend with them has been fantastic. The success that they had rubbed off on us a little bit today and hopefully we can use them as inspiration towards the future."

After a scoreless first half in which the Wildcats had the 6-3 advantage on shots, the scoring opened up early in the second frame with Waddle’s score. Kate Allen found Waddle on the break and from just inside the 18, she put her touch shot over Dartmouth keeper Tatiana Saunders and into the net.

The Wildcats added to their lead in the 74th minute with Landgrebe’s second goal of the season. The play began all the way at the other end of the field as Hascher found Allen who then dished to Landgrebe for a chip shot over Saunders. With her two assists Sunday, Allen now has 44 career points, which moves her into a tie for ninth in school history for career points.

Landgrebe and Waddle’s scores were two of just three shots for the Wildcats in the second half but both paid dividends as they found the back of the net. The NU defense continued to stay strong despite 12 Dartmouth shots and Hascher was active in the second with five saves. The Big Green proved to be an offensive threat on Friday night, scoring three goals at Purdue, but the Wildcats shut them out Sunday.

Dartmouth finished with the 15-9 advantage on shots and 8-1 lead on corner kicks. Hascher had six saves while Saunders finished with three.

Northwestern remains at home for its next two games as the squad wraps up its nonconference schedule at Lakeside Field. The ’Cats welcome Western Michigan Thursday, Sept. 12 and then play their final match before the Big Ten season begins, hosting Oakland Sunday, Sept. 15.
