The Central Connecticut women's soccer team was able to keep the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds scoreless throughout 90 minutes of regulation play, but fell to the conference foe in overtime. LIU Brooklyn is now (7-7-3, 5-1-3 NEC) and Central's record falls to (3-12-1, 2-6-0 NEC).

The Blue Devils were outshot by the Blackbirds 12-7 but managed to post three shots in the first half. Sophomore Lauren Varholak sent one wide, classmate Kerriann Welch placed one high and junior Rachel Cerrone shot one that landed on target but was saved by LIU goalie Jennifer Bannon. The six shots from LIU during the first period also fell unsuccessful and both teams finished the half deadlocked at zero.

The second half began with a shot by the Blackbirds followed by a shot from freshman defender Marissa Quesnel that was saved by Bannon. CCSU boasted five corner kicks in the second period, three in the last minute of play, but none resulted in a shot opportunity for Central and regulation play expired with the teams still scoreless.

It was LIU's Katie Egan who posted the lone overtime shot and found the back of the net in the fifth minute of overtime. She put the Blackbirds up 1-0 to end the match.

Both Bannon and Central's Nikola Deiter spent 95:12 in goal and accumulated three saves on the day. The Blue Devils out-matched the Blackbirds in corner kicks, 7-4.

Central returns to action on Friday, Oct. 26, at the CCSU Soccer Field in New Britain, CT at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils will take on conference foe Fairleigh Dickinson who is currently 5-9-3 on the season and is tied with CCSU in NEC play 2-6-0.
