The Central Connecticut women's soccer team lost to the University of Connecticut Huskies 4-1 on Sunday at the CCSU Soccer field. The loss drops Central's record to 1-4.

Junior goalkeeper Nikola Deiter recorded a season-high 11 saves in the game and freshman Claire Walsh scored the lone goal for the Blue Devils, the first of her career.

The Huskies (4-2-1) got off to a quick start with senior Danielle Schulmann scoring the first goal of the match in the sixth minute, drawing out Deiter to place the ball in the back of the net. Four minutes later, Schulmann sent a cross from the right side of the field to junior Jennifer Skogerboe who placed a header into the left corner of the net. The goal put the Huskies up 2-0 at the half.

The Blue Devils kicked off the scoring in the second half when Walsh, assisted by sophomore Kerriann Welch, kicked the ball over freshman goalkeeper Allison Saucier from the left side of the box to narrow the gap 2-1. Connecticut pulled away 15 minutes later, however, when a second goal from Schulmann (assisted by freshman Stephanie Ribeiro) lofted the score to 3-1. Schulmann added another goal, her third, with 14 minutes left to play to complete the scoring 4-1.

The Huskies outshot the Blue Devils 29 to five and capitalized on several scoring opportunities. Walsh led Central with one goal and two shots on goal. Junior Jewel Robinson also added two shots.

The Blue Devils return to action Friday, Sept. 14 at Sienna (0-4) at 1 p.m.
