The Central Connecticut women's soccer team ended their 2012 season with a loss to the Sacred Heart Pioneers 1-0 on Sunday, Oct. 28 at the CCSU Soccer Field in New Britain, CT. With the loss, CCSU's final record stands at 4-13-1 (3-7-0 NEC). Sacred Heart is now 8-9-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference play.

Central edged Sacred Heart during the first period in shots with four, compared to three for the Pioneers. Junior Jewel Robinson sent one wide and SHU goalie Sydney Judkins saved two: one from senior Erin Egan and one from sophomore Christina Boucher.

Earning two corner kicks in the first half, the Blue Devils attempted to create scoring opportunities, however, both teams held up a strong defense and the score remained tied, 0-0 at the half.

The last two match-ups between CCSU and Sacred Heart have resulted in double-overtime ties. Toward the end of the second period, evenly match play continued in what looked to be a third consecutive game headed into overtime. It was Sacred Heart's Kristen Verrette, however, who sent a shot from 15 yards out on the left side that made its way into the upper right corner of the net with just under five minutes left to play. The goal put the Pioneers up 1-0, a deficit that carried through to the final seconds awarding Sacred Heart the win.

Central goalkeeper Nikola Deiter completed the game totaling four saves compared to three for Judkins. Sacred Heart led the game in shots, 8-7, and corner kicks, 8-2.

Prior to the game, Egan and fellow CCSU seniors Ashlee Barrow, Cara Cavallari and Annie Freer were honored. Each senior has been an asset to the 2012 team, Egan playing in all 17 games, Barrow seeing action in 16, Freer in 15 and Cavallari taking the field in 11.

Leaders on the team this season include sophomore Kerriann Welch, who scored three goals and earned eight points and Robinson who scored two goals and accumulated five points. Junior Allison Kelley finished first on the team in assists with three and also scored one goal for a total of five points. Deiter completed the season with 96 saves, a .800 save percentage and five shutouts.
