Ceballos' Hat Trick Leads Warhawks to Win

September 21, 2018

Hozai Ceballos (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig)recorded his first collegiate hat trick to lead the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team to a 5-2 victory over Westminster (Mo.) Friday in Fulton, Missouri.

The win is the second straight for the Warhawks who improve to 3-3-1 this season.

In his first start of the season, Ceballos wasted little time putting the Warhawks on the scoreboard, scoring his first goal of the match in the 5th minute.

The Blue Jays tied the match twenty-one minutes later, but the lead was short lived. Thirteen minutes after that freshman defender Mariano Carini (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) scored his first collegiate goal off of a pass from Henry Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) to give UW-W a 2-1 lead at the half.

Ceballos went to work again, scoring a goal less than two minutes into the second half to put the Warhawks up 3-1.

Westminster came to within one with a goal in the 57th minute, but Ceballos stretched the lead back to two with a goal 34 seconds later to complete his hat trick.

Jalen Holley (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East) connected with Casey Thompson (Verona, Wis./Verona)in the 80th minute for an insurance goal, bringing the final score to 5-2.

Ceballos only needed 36 minutes of playing time to record the hat trick. The last player to tally three goals in a match for the Warhawks was Peter Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) on September 8, 2017 in a 4-1 victory over Augsburg.

Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) made his second start of the season in goal for the Warhawks and made four saves in 59 minutes before giving way to Toney Anderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) to finish the match. King earned the win to improve to 2-0 this season.

The Warhawks placed 11 of their 20 shots on goal as they outshot the Blue Jays 20-12.

UW-W will stay in Missouri until Sunday when the travel to St. Louis to take on Fontbonne in a match beginning at 1 p.m.

Friday's match was the first in a four-game road trip for the Warhawks.
