Centre picks up 2-0 road win at Wabash
Centre's men's soccer team got a goal in each half to come away with a 2-0 road win Saturday at Wabash.
Senior forward Austin Hall (Indianapolis, Ind.) was able to get Centre on the board in the 37th minute on an unassisted goal, his team-leading fifth of the season. Just after halftime, the Colonels were able to put some distance between themselves and Wabash when Josh Settle (Bowling Green, Ky.) chipped a ball over Wabash keeper Matt Paul from between midfield and the top of the box.
"I am really happy to see the shutout," said Centre head coach Jeb Burch. "Shutouts are a team effort, and I thought we handled each moment in the game very well, especially late as Wabash played direct."
Wabash outshot Centre 15-9 for the match, including a 13-3 edge in the second half, but senior goalkeeper Chris Jackson (Oxford, Ohio) was able to make three saves and preserve the shutout victory. Paul made two saves for Wabash.
"I have a lot of respect for Wabash's coach," Burch said after his team escaped with the shutout." "I feel his team always plays us very competitively."
With the win, Centre moves to 3-2 on the year. Despite having a winning record, however, Burch sees rome for improvement in his team.
"We are still a bit nervous on the ball, and our movement off the ball can be much better," Burch added. "But overall it's a great win for us on the road."
Centre continues its road trip when it travels to Earlham on Sunday at 4 p.m. before returning home Tuesday to take on Thomas More
