Charley Signs Professional Contract
PORTLAND, Ore. – Former Vanderbilt soccer standout Simone Charley was signed by the Portland Thorns FC supplemental roster, the team announced on Wednesday.
Charley put together a sensational career in four seasons at Vanderbilt, tallying 25 goals and 18 assists in 76 career matches.
Charley, a Hoover, Alabama, native, was a SEC All-Freshman team selection, two-time All-SEC second team member, first team selection, two-time All-South Region selection, 2017 second team All-Southeast Region selection by United Soccer Coaches and a four-time SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll member.
Charley also starred on the Vanderbilt track and field team. She was a six-time All-American, being named second team outdoor in 2014, first team for both indoor and outdoor in 2015 and 16 and a first team in indoor in 2017. In 2014, she was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. In 2017, Charley was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District Team member and was an All-SEC Second Team Selection. Charley left Vanderbilt as the school record-holder in the outdoor and indoor triple jump.
During her Vanderbilt career, Charley became the first female Commodore student-athlete to earn All-America and Academic All-America honors in the same year in 2016-17. Earlier this year, she was named to the Southeastern Conference's 2019 Class of Women's Legends.
