PHILADELPHIA, PA - The 15th-ranked Charlotte’s soccer team (11-3-4, A-10: 5-2-2) fell on the road at Atlantic 10 foe Temple (9-7-2, A-10: 4-4-1), 2-1, in the final regular-season games for both teams. Evan James scored his sixth goal of the season for the 49ers who will be the fifth-seed in this week’s Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Championship.

In the ninth minute. Andres Cuero played a thru ball down the right side of the field to James who buried a shot into the back of the net from 20 yards out for the game’s first goal. James’ goal was his sixth of the season.

Just 48 seconds later, Temple tied the score, 1-1, when Francois Sagna put a rebound off a 49ers deflection into the back of the net.

In the 20th minute, the 49ers appeared to regain the lead when Adam Gross scored but the goal was disallowed as the officials called the 49ers for offsides.

Temple took the lead for good, 2-1, when JT Noone scored on a penalty kick in the 41st minute.

In the second half, the 49ers had several great scoring chances to tie the score. Charles Rodriguez headed the ball off the post in the 77th minute. Then, with 15 seconds left in regulation, Jennings Rex’s shot went just wide of the goal.

Charlotte finished the game with 16 shots. Cuero and Gross tallied four shots apiece. While, Donnie Smith added three shots to Charlotte’s attack. Rodriguez recorded two shots.

Charlotte returns to action in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament at the University of Rhode Island, Thursday, November 12.
