Charpentier Named Academic All-League

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior defender John Marc Charpentier has been named an Academic All-Patriot League honoree as announced the by the league office Wednesday afternoon. To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Patriot League awards, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.

Charpentier was Lehigh’s lone representative on the 11-man Academic All-League team. Army West Point, Colgate and Loyola tied for the lead with two student-athletes selected from each of their respected institutions. Holy Cross’ Arno Rupp was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was also tabbed a second-team All-Patriot League selectin earlier this week. Rupp owns a 3.73 GPA, leads the Crusaders in goals and points this season, and scored the game-winning goal in Holy Cross’ 3-0 Patriot League Quarterfinal victory over Lehigh on Tuesday.

For Charpentier, this is his second Patriot League award of the week, as he was named a second-team All-League player following Monday’s awards announcement. The Silver Spring, Md. native owns a 3.43 GPA as an Industrial and Systems Engineering major, is a two-time Dean’s List (min. 3.6 GPA) student and has previously been selected to the Patriot League Honor Roll.

 

The senior defender was named a co-captain for the 2017 season as he anchored the Lehigh backline, starting all 18 games he appeared in on the year. He helped lead a defensive unit that recorded five shutouts on the season, including three in league play, while the unit ranked fourth in the Patriot League in goals-against average (1.33) and goals against (24) at the end of the regular season.

The four-year letter winner has been a consistent and reliable piece to the Lehigh defensive unit during his four years. He has played in 62 games throughout his career, making 47 starts, including 10 starts during the 2015 Patriot League Championship season.

Charpentier is Lehigh’s seventh Academic All-League selection since the awards inception in 2010. A Mountain Hawk has been named to the list in each of the last five seasons.
