September 27, 2011

MORROW, Ga. – September 27, 2011 – After two weeks of falling steadily in the NSCAA Division II Top 25 men’s soccer poll, the Clayton State Lakers began their ascension this week.

Clayton advanced two spots from 15th to 13th in the new NSCAA Division II Top 25, which was released on Tuesday. This following two key victories last week – a 4-1 triumph at Young Harris on Wednesday, and a 1-0 squeaker over Francis Marion on Saturday. Head coach Pete Petersen’s Lakers are now 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the Peach Belt Conference heading into Wednesday’s home showdown against North Georgia.

Clayton State is one of two teams from the Peach Belt that are nationally ranked this week. Flagler made one of the biggest jumps in the poll, moving from 13th to tied for 10th with Northern Kentucky. Lander was ranked ninth last week, but fell out of the Top 25 after a 2-1 defeat against Newberry on Saturday.

The new No. 1-ranked team in the nation in Division II is Rollins after Northern Kentucky’s 2-1 defeat against Missouri S&T on Sunday.

Clayton State’s contest against North Georgia is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Laker Field. A victory would be the 200th victory in the history of men’s soccer at Clayton State.
