DOVER, Del. – Freshman Taylor Addison (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) and senior Kelsey Gibson (Elizabethtown, N.Y.) each scored their first career goals as the Delaware State University women’s soccer team ran out of time Friday evening in a 2-2 double overtime tie against Rider University at Alumni Stadium.

The Hornets (0-6-1) got on the board first, with an acrobatic goal from Addison coming in the 37th minute.  Addison received the ball within the 18 and dribbled around and hurdled over defenders to get a shot to the left of Bronc goalie Jenn Nichols.

Rider (5-1-2) responded almost immediately with senior Kelly Sandefur tying the game at 1-1 in the 40th minute.  The Broncs took a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute as senior Abi Cottam header shot grazed the fingertips of DSU sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.).

In the 58th minute, the Hornets tied the contest at 2-2 with a goal from Gibson.  Fellow senior Candace Wyre (Smyrna, Del.) got tangled up with Nichols around the 12-yard-line and passed the ball off to Gibson, who was able to take advantage of the empty net.

Rider outshot the Hornets, 26-8, including an advantage of 5-1 in the overtime periods.

Koslosky recorded a season-high 12 saves in nearly 99 minutes of play.  The goalie was ejected with just over one minute remaining in the game with a red card following a save and altercation with Rider senior Demi Mello.  With the red card, Koslosky will not be able to suit up for Sunday’s contest against Mount St. Mary’s.

Freshman Mekayla McAdoo (New Castle, Del.) was impressive coming off the bench on short notice as she collected one crucial save in 11-plus minutes of play.

Del State continues their four-game homestand with a 1 p.m. contest against Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday at Alumni Stadium.  Live stats will be available through DSUHornets.com.
