Colonels blank Baldwin-Wallace 1-0 in women's soccer
Having registered six assists through three matches, junior Mary Taylor Kersey (Winchester, Ky.) scored her first goal of the season, and the only goal of the match, to give the Centre College women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Baldwin Wallace College on day one of the Glenn Hyundai/Transylvania Showcase Saturday, Sept. 10 in Lexington, Ky.
The Colonels remain undefeated and improve to 4-0 on the year, while Baldwin Wallace suffers its first defeat of the 2011 season to fall to 2-1.
Following a scoreless first half, in which the two teams combined for only eight shots, Kersey found the back of the net off an assist from senior Kelsey Boling (Louisville, Ky.) at the 51:30 mark the match's lone goal. The assist was Boling's first of the season.
Centre finished the match with a 12-2 advantage in shots and had nine corner kicks to only one for Baldwin Wallace. The shutout win is the third straight for the Colonels and the third straight for senior Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.). Through four matches, Centre has allowed only one goal.
The Colonels will return to action Sunday, Sept. 11 for day two of the Showcase. No. 15 Centre will square off against No. 3 Otterbein College at 2 p.m. in Lexington, Ky.
