Colonels blanked 4-0 by Trinity in SCAC Women's Championship
Top-seeded Trinity University proved to be too much as the Centre College women's soccer team fell 4-0 to the Tigers in the SCAC Women's Tournament Championship match Sunday, Nov. 6 in Birmingham, Ala.
Trinity, ranked third in the country and still undefeated at 20-0, took a 1-0 lead when Kelly Watts scored off an assist from Hannah Kuhl at the 18:40 mark in the first half.
The two teams entered the half with that same 1-0 score, but the Tigers scored three times in the second half off goals from Emily Jorgens (54:06), Abigail Loar (55:35) and Shelby Guenthardt (88:47).
Trinity, having played one less match on the weekend due to being the top seed, out-shot Centre 19-6 on the day and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Senior Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) took the loss in goal for the Colonels. Lenz stopped six of the nine shots she faced.
Centre, now 14-4-2 overall, will wait to see if their season will continue with an NCAA Tournament invitation.
