COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado College women’s soccer team strengthened its lineup with the recent additions of junior transfer Kecia Morway and freshman forward Carina Lauzon.

Morway, a two-year starter at the University of Notre Dame, enrolled at CC and has two years of eligibility remaining.

“We’re excited to add a player with Kecia’s skill and experience,” head coach Geoff Bennett said. “She can play anywhere on the back line and her versatility will give us many options.

“More importantly, Kecia is exactly the kind of student-athlete we recruit and is a perfect fit for our team and program.”

Morway was named to Soccer America’s Freshman All-America Team in 2010 after helping Notre Dame capture its third national championship. She started 19 of 25 games that season, including all six during the postseason, when the Irish recorded 15 shutouts and a 0.51 goals-against average.

Playing both left and right back, Morway finished ninth on the team with 1,722 minutes played, including all 90 in ND’s 1-0 victory over top-ranked Stanford in the title game of the NCAA Tournament.

As a sophomore in 2011, Morway started 20 games and ranked fourth with 1,579 minutes as the Irish finished with a 10-8-3 mark.

Morway, a product of Lake Villa, Ill., played club soccer for Eclipse Select with current Tigers Lynn Froetscher and Katie Uyenishi.

Lauzon has distinguished herself as one of the top offensive players in Canada.

She is a three-time MVP of her club team, Surrey United, and was continually one of the top offensive players in British Columbia.

“Carina is very fast and athletic,” Bennett said. “She will provide depth in the offensive zone early in her career, but has the potential to be a scoring threat as she adjusts to the college game.”

Lauzon’s team won the Provincial Championship in 2012 and was runner-up the year before. Each year, she was awarded the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top performer.

Lauzon also played for the British Columbia U16 Provincial Team that finished first at the Olympic Development Friendship Cup and fourth at the Canadian Nationals in 2010.

The Tigers begin their 2012 campaign on Friday, Aug. 17, against the University of Denver in the first game of the Colorado Cup in Greeley, Colo.
