Columbia Defeats Drexel, 2-0
PURCHASE, N.Y. – Goals by Rhys Williams and Francisco Agrest helped the Columbia men's soccer team top Drexel, 2-0, at GoValiants.com Field in Purchase, New York.
Dylan Castanheira posted a shutout in net and Dylan Mott added an assist in the win, as the Lions improved to 5-2-1 this season.
The score for Williams came in the first half, shortly after he and Mott came on in a substitution. Dribbling up the right side, Mott sent a cross all the way to a streaking Williams, who finished for a sliding score in the 34th minute. The goal for the senior was his second on the season.
The Lions took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at the half, but would not end the scoring there. In the 78th minute, Agrest made his way up the left side all the way from the midfield, as Arthur Bosua occupied a Drexel defender. Agrest took a shot once he approached the box, finishing on the lower right side for his second goal of the season.
Castanheira was impressive in net, starting his first game since the 2014 season. The sophomore recorded his third career shutout with a save, as the Columbia defense allowed just eight shots in the contest.
On Saturday, Columbia will return to Ivy League action with a trip to Penn.
