OLEAN, N.Y. – With three minutes left until Cornell extended its winning streak to five games, St. Bonaventure got an equalizing goal at home Monday afternoon. Neither squad could score in overtime, and the Big Red and Bonnies ended the contest tied at 1-1.

Cornell (4-1-3), ranked No. 9 in the NSCAA Northeast Regional poll, is now on a seven-game unbeaten streak that is it longest since the start of the 2002 season.

Conor Goepel got his second goal of the year in the 40th minute after the Bonnies controlled most of the play in the first half.

The Big Red seemed to be getting outplayed for the first 25 minutes, and the team had just two shots to show for its efforts. St. Bonaventure was earning corner kicks and threatening the Cornell goal yet couldn't get off any solid shots.

But in the 40th minute, the game changed. Jake Rinow took a long throw-in from the left side into the penalty box, and defender Patrick Slogic got his head on the ball. Slogic's redirection pushed the ball deeper into the Bonnies' penalty area, and Goepel provided the finishing touch.

Goepel's goal was also the team's 14th of the year, which put the Red over the total it achieved in all of 2010.

For most of the rest of the afternoon, it appeared Goepel's strike would be the game-winner. St. Bonaventure had earned just one shot on goal all game, but as the Bonnies pushed forward late, they got the breakthrough they were searching for.

The Big Red's shutout streak ended at 501 minutes thanks to an 87th-minute goal from St. Bonaventure's Joshua Gonsalves. The goal, his first of the year, came on a terrific curving shot from inside the penalty area. Gonsalves made space for himself by dribbling left, and he bent the ball around Cornell keeper Rick Pflasterer, who dove to no avail.

The second-half whistle blew three minutes later, and Cornell's afternoon continued.

In the first overtime, Jimmy Lannon had a great chance to win the game when he got a pass from Daniel Haber in the penalty box. With the Bonnies' goalkeeper putting pressure on him, Lannon fired high and the overtime went on.

The Big Red had a quality opportunity in the second overtime with forward Daniel Haber and Tyler Regan teaming up. With just one defender and the goalie in front of them, Regan played a ball high in the air that forced the keeper to come out. The ball landed on Haber's head and went toward the goal. Before the ball could cross the line, though, the referee blew the whistle to indicate offsides on Haber, nullifying the shot.

Cornell outshot St. Bonaventure 15-9 and also committed 21 fouls to the Bonnies' 10. The game was aggressive and saw four yellow cards handed out, including one to Big Red defender Jake Rinow.

Cornell kicks off Ivy League play in Philadelphia this weekend, taking on Penn at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Penn is ranked one spot ahead of the Red in the NSCAA Northeast Regional poll.
