MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A pair of goals scored on corner kick situations provided the difference Friday night, as Middle Tennessee closed its non-conference soccer campaign with a 2-0 win over in-state foe Tennessee Tech at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.

The Blue Raiders dominated action throughout, holding a 23-to-5 shot advantage and a 14-to-1 edge on corner kicks.

Middle Tennessee struck first at 18:06 when redshirt freshman Greta Jochmann tallied her first career goal. Sophomore Jessika Oseguera sent a corner kick to the top of the six-yard box and after a crowd going after the ball, a Golden Eagle defender attempted to clear it away from her own net.

The clear landed at Jochmann’s feet and she blasted a shot from 20 yards out off the crossbar. Her attempt ricocheted directly back to her and she placed the rebound behind Tennessee Tech (2-6-1) goalkeeper Becca Toler for the 1-0 MT lead.

The Blue Raiders kept the offensive pressure on the Golden Eagle backline with eight players having multiple shot attempts, including a game-high four from senior Laura Lamberth.

Lamberth was on the receiving end of another corner kick situation, extending the Middle Tennessee (3-5) cushion to a pair of goals. Nearly 20 minutes into the second half, Oseguera placed another corner kick in solid position for one of her teammates near the six-yard box.

Lamberth jumped high over the Tennessee Tech defense and headed the ball past Toler for her second career goal at 64:54.

Despite the large margins in shots and corner kicks, the Blue Raiders were unable to capitalize on other opportunities.

The Golden Eagles had a couple chances for a score in the second half, but MT netminder Rebecca Cushing stood tall to preserve the shutout, her second of the season and 13th of her career, tying her with Danielle Perreault (2002-05) for third place in school history.

Middle Tennessee will return to action when it opens the Sun Belt portion of its schedule at 8 p.m. Central Friday against Denver in Denver, Colo. The last time the two teams met was in the 2010 Sun Belt Tournament Championship with the Blue Raiders advancing past the Pioneers, 3-2, on penalty kicks after a scoreless regulation and overtime.
