Correll named PL Rookie of the Week

October 6, 2014

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following stellar performances, Lehigh women's soccer freshman Grace Correll has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced on Monday. Correll had a hand in all three Mountain Hawk goals over the two-game week which featured a 2-1 win at archrival Lafayette and 1-1 tie vs. defending league champion Boston University.

Lehigh's team leader in points, Correll is third in the Patriot League in points (11) and tied for fifth in goals (4). She wins Rookie of the Week for the second time in her career after receiving the honor after her one-goal, one-assist effort vs. Binghamton.

On Wednesday at Lafayette, the freshman began her scoring at the 22:27 mark, finishing a lefty strike into the top-right corner of the goal to make it 1-0 Mountain Hawks. Correll added insurance at 76:14, heading a free kick into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage. Both goals proved crucial as Lafayette scored in the 84th minute to pull within one, but Lehigh held on to beat the Leopards for the first time since 2010.

Correll went on to dish an assist on Lehigh's only goal in a 1-1 tie against Boston University, ranked #6 in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings. The Bay Head, New Jersey native made a centering feed to senior Darby Wiegand in the 66th minute, who evened the score at one.

Correll ended up scoring on half of her four shots for the week. She's had a hand in seven of the team's nine goals this season.

Juniors Emily Korber and Ani Nahapetian also earned honorable mention recognition on the weekly honor roll. Korber played all 200 minutes over the two games and has stabilized the right back position. Lehigh's defense allowed just six shots against Lafayette and just three shots on goal before allowing only one goal to the Terriers, who were coming off a three-goal effort at previously undefeated Holy Cross. Meanwhile, Nahapetian made five saves against Boston University Saturday, including a diving stop to her left on a point-blank opportunity as the second half expired.

Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Princeton at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks will then return to league play at Loyola next weekend.
