COSTELLO'S TWO GOALS LEADS MONMOUTH WOMEN'S SOCCER TO 2-1 VICTORY AT LEHIGH

BETHLEHEM, PA. - Behind a pair of goals from sophomore Dana Costello (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), the Monmouth University women's soccer team won its second straight match, defeating Lehigh University 2-1 on Friday night, at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Monmouth, which improved to 2-3 on the year, received the game-winner just 32 seconds after Lehigh had tied the match in the 77th minute.

"We had a terrific work rate and passion tonight," stated head coach Krissy Turner, who has guided the Hawks to 140 victories in her 14th season at the helm of the program. "We battled, played good soccer and finished our chances."

Monmouth took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Costello otched her second goal of the season, off a feed from classmate Monique Plescia (Norwood, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Old Tappan, her first career assist, in the 10th minute.

The Mountain Hawks knotted the score at 1-1 at 76:22 on Murphee Greeley's first goal of the year, but Monmouth reclaimed the lead just 32 ticks later when Costello took a ball that was misplayed by the Lehigh goalkeeper and deposited her third goal of the campaign.

Monmouth and Lehigh each registered 10 shots in the match, while Ashley Lewis (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) made five saves between the pipes for the Blue and White. Lewis' counterpart, Ashley Blanks also made five saves for the Mountain Hawks in the loss.

Monmouth returns to action on Sunday, September 11, when the Hawks travel to Jersey City for a non-conference match at Saint Peter's.
