LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 18, 2013) -- The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team fought to a scoreless draw on Friday afternoon at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex as the Cowgirls tied Fresno State, 0-0 in double overtime. Despite the draw, which was UW’s second on the season, Wyoming recorded a season-high 19 shots during the match.

“It would have been great to get a goal, especially with 19 shots,” UW head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “I give the girls credit, they worked and played hard. We have two wins and a draw against three top teams in the conference. It seems like today we just couldn’t get a bounce to go our way.”

The season-high 19 shots for Wyoming was the highest since the Cowgirls recorded 17 against Montana earlier this year on Aug. 25.  Last season’s high was 22 shots against Montana State-Billings on Aug. 24.

Wyoming (6-8-2, 3-2-1 MW) was able to control the ball most of the match and limited Fresno State (7-7-2-, 4-2-1) to only five total shots. The Cowgirls’ offense came out shooting right from the first whistle and had plenty of scoring opportunities in the first half. Wyoming had 10 shots during the first stanza, five of which were on goal. The Wyoming defense held the Bulldogs to only three first half shots. Junior goalkeeper Alex Boehm’s only save of the match came during the first half and was the only shot on goal the Bulldogs had.

During the second 45 minutes, the Cowgirls were once again able to pressure Fresno State offensively and control most of the remaining minutes. Wyoming’s defense didn’t allow the Bulldogs to hardly get anything going and held them to one shot compared to the Cowgirls’ five. At the end of regulation, Wyoming held a 15-4 shot advantage. UW saw each overtime period go by recording two shots during each period, as the Bulldogs were limited to only one shot in the first overtime.

Four different Cowgirls recorded three shots during the match. Leading Wyoming was senior midfielder Liz O’Reilly, junior midfielder Loren Mahoney, junior defender Kristin Howard and freshman Mandy Meyer each with three shots. Junior midfielder Sheree Small recorded two shots, as sophomore midfielder Mollee Ramsay, junior defender Hayley Charlton, sophomore Jennifer Paul, junior midfielder Alison Clarke and freshman forward Laurel Ramer each recorded one shot apiece for the Cowgirls.

Junior keeper Katie DeVault had 11 saves for the Bulldogs, while Boehm had one. Freshman defender Sammi Dunda, junior defender Kasey Curtis, Boehm, Clarke, Meyer and Howard played all 110 minutes for Wyoming.

The Cowgirls return to the pitch Sunday against San Jose State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
