VERMILLION, S.D. (Sept. 12,2014) – After trailing at halftime, the University of Wyoming women’s soccer team scored twice in two minutes to earn a 2-1 win over South Dakota on Friday evening. Sophomore forward Laurel Ramer notched the game-winning goal, while freshman forward Alisha Bass earned first career goal.

“I was happy with the total team effort,” UW head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “It was great to see our team respond being down 1-0 and coming back out after the half to score two goals to come back and win.”

The Cowgirls outshot South Dakota by a 14-5 margin, including 11-3 in shots on goal, and also led with nine corner kicks. Bass and Ramer led the Cowgirls with a goal each. Freshman defender Clair Parker followed with two shots on goal.

In the first half the Coyotes found the back of the net off a header in the 6^th minute to earn a 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half Bass came out and scored a header off a free kick by sophomore defender Sammi Dunda, tying the game 1-1 in the 57^th minute. Wyomings sophomore forward Laurel Ramer scored off an assist from freshman defender Kaitlyn Lomsnes on a through pass just one minute later to help Wyoming take the 2-1 lead.

“Sunday will be a tough game on the road,” coach Cuadrado said. “Morehead is a good team with their only loss being to Kentucky and we will be ready to go out and compete.”

The Cowgirls return to the pitch Sunday against Morehead State at 10:30 a.m. MT in Morehead, Ky.
