MOREGA, Calif.--For the third time in four matches CSU Bakersfield went to double overtime in men's soccer action. And for the third time, CSUB (0-1-3) came away with a tie, playing Saint Mary's (1-0-2) to a 1-1 draw Friday afternoon.

Freshman Eduardo Caldaza (South Los Angeles, Calif., Roosevelt HS) put in his own rebound just under five minutes into the second half to give CSUB a 1-0 lead. Jake Stenberg tied the score with 16:13 remaining in the second half to tie the score.

A pair of CSUB shots were blocked in the 80th minute. A header by Kory Kindle (Sr., Ventura, Calif., Ventura HS) was saved by Gaels’ goalie Andre Rawls in the 82nd minute. Roadrunners’ goalie Eric Shannon (Sr., Valencia, Calif., Valencia HS) made a save on a Saint Mary’s header by Bobby Conner a little over a minute later.

Shannon had to make a diving save on Jose Cabeza's blast with a little over two minutes to go in the first overtime to keep the Roadrunners alive. CSUB had a chance with a little over minute left in the second OT but an Alex Flores (So., Sylmar, Calif., Birmingham Community HS) shot went off the post. Shannon would make eight saves and knocked a long Saint Mary's ball away with four seconds remaining in the match for the final 1-1.

"It was another superb team performance," said CSUB head coach Simon Tobin. "We just didn't get the break today. We hit the inside of the post in OT and once again we did enough to win it."

CSUB hosts Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m. on Monday as part of a doubleheader with the Roadrunners' women's soccer team. The first 500 fans who arrive at Monday’s match will receive a free Vuvuzela. For tickets call 654-BLUE or go to GoRunners.com.
