Cyclones Drop Home Tournament Finale
WASHINGTON, N.J. – The Centenary College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Drew during the final game of the Cyclone Kickoff Classic Saturday afternoon at Warren Hills High School.
Drew held an 8-1 shots on goal advantage and completed the tournament with a 2-0 mark, while the Cyclones were defeated for the second-straight game.
The Rangers netted both of their goals in a 10-minute span during the first half. Liz Loiodice redirected a pass from Alexa Kogan for her third goal of the tournament to put Drew on the board. Danielle Cowan added an insurance tally just over nine minutes later.
Junior goalkeepers Nikki Gillis (Howell, N.J./Howell) and Megan Williams (Glenside, Pa./Abington) split time in net for the Cyclones. Williams collected four saves, while Gillis blocked a pair of shots.
Sophomore defender Jaclyn LaGuardia (Wycoff, N.J./Ramapo) recorded the lone shot on goal for Centenary. Following the conclusion of the tournament, LaGuardia earned the Brittany Emerald Paes Trophy as the Cyclones' top performer.
Throughout the tournament, the team raised money to be donated in Paes' name to PETA. Paes tragically passed away in an accident in June 2012 at the age of 12.
Centenary hits the road for the first time in 2013 on Saturday when it visits Montclair State at 1:00 pm.
