Cyclones Drop Road Match At Richard Stockton
GALLOWAY, N.J. – Richard Stockton College scored a pair of goals during the opening 10 minutes en route to a 3-0 women's soccer victory over Centenary College on Wednesday evening.
Junior goalkeeper Megan Williams (Glenside, Pa./Abington) was tested all night as she matched a season high with eight saves for Centenary. The Cyclones recorded a pair of shots, one each from senior Kelley Carvalho (Roselle, N.J./Roselle Catholic) and sophomore Becky D'Angelo (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley).
The Ospreys struck in the third minute for the game's first goal. After Williams made a save on an initial shot, Leah Braidi collected the rebound and found the back of the net.
Just over seven minutes later, Laina Matus fired home a shot from the left wing to give Stockton a 2-0 edge. Melissa Trafton capped the scoring with a late goal to provide the final margin.
Stockton tallied 16 of the match's 18 shot attempts, led by three each from Matus and Amanda Magana. Magana also assisted on a pair of Osprey goals.
Centenary begins Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday against Neumann at Hackettstown High School. Game time is 12:30 pm.
