ST. AUGUSTINE – Brittany D’Addio scored on a free kick in the 61^st minute to help lead Flagler College to a season opening win over Anderson (S.C.) University 3-2 in the Flagler Kick-Off Classic Thursday night at Saints Field.

Flagler improved to 1-0 on the season while Anderson dropped to 0-1.

D’Addio booted the free kick from 35 yards out and the ball just cleared the underside of the crossbar, just out of reach of Anderson’s goalkeeper.

The Saints were down early when Allie Waters scored the first of her two goals, this one coming in the 2^nd minute, off a pass from Jessica Kleinberg.

Loren Cate followed by scoring the first of her two goals off a pass from Rafaela Faria in the 8^th minute. Cate’s shot clipped the underside of the crossbar and found the back of the net. She added another goal, off a free kick, in the 14^th minute to give Flagler a 2-1 lead.

 

The Saints lead was short-lived as Waters scored on a free kick in the 27^th minute.

 

Cristina Coca tallied three saves for the Saints. Kaitlyn Neipp recorded six saves for the Trojans.

 

Flagler out-shot Anderson 18-7 and held a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Other scores from the Flagler Kick-Off Classic had Saint Leo University routing Catawba College 6-1 and Limestone College slipped past Palm Beach Atlantic University 1-0 in overtime. 

Flagler will host Limestone on Saturday (Sept. 3) at 11 a.m. at Saints Field.
