Dartmouth Men's Soccer Falls to Yale, 2-0

October 9, 2011

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Yale men's soccer team used goals in each half and kept the Dartmouth men's soccer team off the board as the Bulldogs defeated Dartmouth, 2-0 in Ivy League action on Saturday.

Freshman Colin Heffron (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) led the Dartmouth (4-4-2, 1-1-0 Ivy League) offense with three shots in the contest. Senior forwards Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and Maarten van Ess (Marlborough, Mass.) and junior Kevin Dzierzawski (Oakland Township, Mich.) each added two shots in the contest.  Goalkeeper Noah Cohen (Johannesburg, South Africa) made three saves in net.

In a fairly evenly matched contest, the game was full of action in the opening minutes of action with both teams recording several scoring opportunities. van Ess had back-to-back shots but the Yale goalkeeper, Bobby Thalman made stops on both opportunities. Mkosana also had a chance that Thalman saved in the 27th minute of action.

Yale (6-4-1, 2-0-0 Ivy League) got on the board in the 25th minute with a header goal from Charlie Paris. Paris headed a cross just beyond the reach of Cohen to give the Bulldogs the early lead. Just before halftime, freshman forward Alex Adelabu (Houston, Texas) got the ball in behind the Yale defense but Thalman stymied the shot as Yale took the halftime lead.

Senior midfielder Aaron Gaide (Avon, Conn.) looked as if he might have the equalizer early in the second half. The ball got through the Yale box and Gaide put a foot on it from eight yards out but Thalman made the save.

The Bulldogs tacked on another goal in the 76th minute. Charlie Neil hit a shot into the top left corner and, despite Cohen getting a piece of the ball, it trickled in behind him to give the Bulldogs the victory.

Dartmouth continues Ivy League action on Saturday (Oct. 15) when it travels to Philadelphia to take on Penn.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
