Dartmouth Women Drop Ivy League opener to Bown in OT

September 25, 2011

PROVIDENCE, R.I - The Dartmouth women's soccer team played to overtime with Brown in its Ivy League opener, but dropped a 1-0 contest to the Bears on Sunday afternoon at Stevenson Field.

Brown sealed the victory in the 98th minute of action. After getting through the Dartmouth defense, Brown's Maddie Warner slipped a ball to the right side of the goal, forcing Big Green goalkeeper Tatiana Saunders (Rye, N.Y.) off her line which left the right corner open, sealing the overtime win for Brown (5-2-1, 1-0-0 Ivy).

Sophomore midfielder Chrissy Lozier (Fairfield, Conn.) led the Dartmouth offense with five shots while senior forward Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) added three shots in the loss. Saunders made six saves in 92:40 minutes of action while senior goalkeeper Colleen Hogan (Houston, Texas) saw 4:46 minutes of action in goal with no saves.

Playing in its second consecutive overtime contest, Dartmouth (2-6-0, 0-1-0 Ivy) battled to a scoreless tie in regulation. The Big Green looked like they might get on the board early with a shot from sophomore midfielder Lozier that was blocked just minutes into the game. Both teams battled back-and-forth and each had several scoring opportunities but neither could get into the scoring column in the first half.

Entering the second half deadlocked at 0-0 for the second consecutive game and the fifth time this season, Dartmouth seemed to have a renewed offense including several shots late in regulation that could have given the Big Green the win. Freshman midfielder Amanda Flugstad-Clarke (Morristown, N.J.) took a shot in the 90th minute that forced the Brown goalkeeper to make a save.

The Big Green took a season-best 20 shots in the loss and connected with eight corner kicks.

Dartmouth heads back to Burnham Field for a non-conference game against UMass on Tuesday (Sept. 27). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. The Big Green will also host its first Ivy League game of the season when it welcomes Princeton to Burnham on Saturday (Oct. 1) in the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team. Kickoff against the Tigers is at 1:00 p.m.
