Daubert's Final Minute PK Defeats Firebirds

October 19, 2011

Washington, DC – Senior Ethan Daubert scored on a penalty kick in the final minutes of play to give Millersville a 3-2 victory over the University of District of Columbia on Wednesday at the UDC Soccer Field.

Millersville (8-4-1) got on the board early with a goal by senior forward Aaron Roland in the sixth minute of play. Roland, who now leads the team with 13 points, scored his fourth goal of the season to put the Marauders up 1-0.

Seven minutes later Millersville found a second strike. Senior Eric Pepper sent a free kick down the right side that found Ryan Rohrer streaking in.  Rohrer struck the ball low to beat the Firebirds’ goalkeeper to increase the Marauders’ lead to 2-0. Pepper’s team leading sixth assist gives him 14 career assists to tie him ninth all-time in school history.

UDC (7-4-3) responded with a goal of its own in the 37th minute. Atunde Akum sent the ball in to Adriel Garcia who cut the Millersville lead to 2-1.

Five minute later, the Marauders fouled Tansu Korkmaz inside the box to give the Firebirds a penalty kick. Korkmaz capitalized on the kick to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the half. UDC outshot Millersville in the first side by a 9-6 margin.

The second half saw zero goals until the final two minutes of play. Rohrer broke free into the offensive zone and was then pulled down inside the box by a Firebird defender to give the Marauders a penalty kick in the 89th minute.

Daubert was selected to take the penalty kick for Millersville. The Marauders were struggling from the penalty dot going 1-for-6 on the season. Daubert struck the ball and beat the Firebirds’ keeper to give Millersville a 3-2 lead and eventual win.

UDC is now 2-1-2 against the PSAC this season with its only loss coming against the Marauders.  The Firebirds recorded wins against Bloomsburg and West Chester, and tied No. 9 California (Pa.) and East Stroudburg.

Millersville stays on the road this weekend when it travels to California (Pa.) to take on the No. 9 Vulcans. The teams are set to kick off at 6 p.m.
