DAYTON OVERPOWERS NKU, 4-0

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team defeated the Northern Kentucky Norse 4-0 on Friday night at Baujan Field. Key Stats: • The game was televised by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel Ohio. The Flyers outshot the Norse 9-2 in the first half. Both teams had three corner kicks in the first half. A.J. Fleak made two saves in the first half for the Norse. • The crowd of 966 was the largest for a men's home game this season. • Dayton out-shot Northern Kentucky in the contest, 23-9, and held a corner-kick advantage of 12-6. • Nine different Flyers recorded a shot in the game with Schoonderwoerd, Amankona, and Harr leading the way with four apiece. • Junior Justin Saliba recorded his third shutout of the season and added two saves. Dayton Goals: • 42nd Minute – A long pass from senior Carlos Sendin found fellow senior Amass Amankona near midfield. Amankona was able to break away from the defense and passed the ball to junior James Haupt just outside the 18 yard box. Haupt (3rd goal) was able to slip the ball to into the right lower corner past the keeper. (Dayton 1, NKU 0) • 57th Minute – Senior Maik Schoonderwoerd dribbled to the end line and pass the ball to Amankona. Amankona's (3rd goal) shot found the lower left corner of the net. (Dayton 2, NKU 0) • 87th Minute – Amankona scored his second goal of the game after receiving the pass from senior Alex Amankwaah in the box. After dribbling around two defenders, the midfielder slotted the ball low and out of the reach of the NKU keeper. (Dayton 3, NKU 0) • 88th Minute – Junior Lalas Abubakar moved forward from his center-back position on a set piece. Junior Rafael Gamboa placed the free-kick right at the penalty spot where Abubakar headed it home. (Dayton 4, NKU 0)
