DAYTON THUMPS FORT WAYNE, 5-0

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton men’s soccer team scored early and often in the 5-0 win over Fort Wayne Tuesday night at Baujan Field.

The Flyers (5-6-2) made up their contest against the Mastodons (7-5) after it was postponed from Sept. 17.

SCORING BREAKDOWN

  • 38th Minute – Dayton 1, Fort Wayne 0 – Freshman Bennett Lehner possessed the ball 15-yard out, saw an opening, and fired to the back post where the Mastodon goalkeeper was never able to pick it up.
  • 51st Minute - Dayton 2, Fort Wayne 0  - A throw-in by senior Coletun Long was flipped on by sophomore Kennedy Nwabia to junior Alvaro Navarro for an easy finish.
  • 61st Minute - Dayton 3, Fort Wayne 0 – A cross by freshman Rok Taneski found the head of Nwabia at the penalty spot, which he redirected over the keeper’s head.
  • 72nd Minute – Dayton 4, Fort Wayne 0 – A penalty kick earned by senior Lance Gaspar was converted by Taneski.
  • 76th Minute – The fifth goal came after a flick by Navarro was put into the back of the net by the Fort Wayne defender.

KEY STATS

  • The Flyers and Mastodons each shot seven times in the first half with the Flyers putting one on target, the Lehner goal.
  • Fort Wayne did not record a single corner kick in the first half.
  • Dayton totaled 18 shots in the game and put seven on target. Fort Wayne shot 15 times and put five on goal.
  • Goalkeeper Federico Barrios recorded his third career shutout and moved to 3-2-2 on the year.
  • Lehner led UD with five shots while Nwabia and Taneski had four shots apiece.
  • The Flyers had an 8-3 corner kick advantage.
  • It was a season-high in goals and assists for Dayton.

  • The Flyers will head back out on the road and return to A-10 play this Saturday at St. Bonaventure for a 7 p.m. contest.
