DAYTON TOPS NORTHEASTERN 3-1
BROOKLINE, Mass. – The University of Dayton women’s soccer team defeated Northeastern 3-1 on the road at Parsons Field Sunday.
The Flyers (5-3-0) were down 1-0 early in the match but scored three unanswered goals against the Huskies (1-5-0).
Junior Steph Emery scored the equalizer in the 25th minute of the match after senior Alysha Mallon’s corner kick was lost in a scramble. The score was tied at the half.
Junior Juliana Libertin scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 77th minute for the Flyers to give them the lead for good.
Senior Colleen Williams scored with two seconds remaining in regulation, on a Mallon corner kick, to give UD the final tally of three goals. It marked her sixth goal of the season and 47th of her career.
UD had 21 shots to Northeastern’s 10.
Junior Jordin Melchert – coming off a career day of eight saves in UD’s 3-1 win over Harvard Friday – notched five saves against Northeastern.
Dayton hosts Wright State this Friday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. at Baujan Field. It’s the Flyers’ final non-conference match of the regular season.
