HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team could not recover from an early goal, bowing out of the 2011 NCAA Tournament in a tough road loss to James Madison, 2-0, on Sunday, Nov. 20 at the JMU Soccer Complex.

James Madison set the tone early and put the Demon Deacons on their heels, taking a 2-0 lead into the locker room. In the first half, Wake was outshot 8-4 and the Dukes held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The hero in round one, junior goalkeeper Michael Lisch was credited with one save but would only face three on-target attempts all match. On the first, JMU went up early in the 14th minute on sharp cross from Patrick Innes meant for Jimmy Simpson, but it found the foot of a Wake Forest defender instead and blew past a helpless Lisch to the far post.

The Dukes drew blood again in the 32nd minute when Christian McGlaughin caught a pass from Simpson and buried it from about eight yards out after a hard tackle on redshirt junior Danny Wenzel gave JMU possession deep in the attacking third.

Wake Forest had three shots on goal in the match, but none better than a one-versus-one opportunity for freshman striker Sean Okoli in the 19th minute. The point-blank opportunity was stopped low by JMU net minder Justin Epperson, who finished the night with three saves and his ninth shutout of the season. In total, the Dukes outshot Wake 15-9 and took eight corners to Wake's two.

The Deacs' season ends at 8-8-5 overall.

• Wake Forest falls to 7-5-0 in the NCAA Tournament Second Round and 20-12-3 overall in the tourney.

• This is the earliest the Demon Deacons have exited the tournament since 2003. The Deacs were shut out for the eighth time in 35 tournament matches.

• Head coach Jay Vidovich is now 19-8-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

• The Deacs are 1-1 in the state of Virginia in the NCAA Tournament.

• Wake loses its first-ever NCAA Tournament Second Round road trip.

• Sophomore MF Jared Watts made his return from a two-game conduct foul suspension sustained in the Deacons' final match of the regular season at Maryland. The First Team All-ACC pick sat out for the ACC Quarterfinals and NCAA First Round.
