Denver Adds U.S. U-20’s Gideon Davis to 2018

August 9, 2018

DENVER – The University of Denver men’s soccer team has added U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team Pool outside back Gideon Davis (Barcelona, Spain) to its 2018 roster, fourth-year head coach Jamie Franks announced on Thursday.

Davis (5-9/156) played his club football for CE Europa, and was called into the U-20 Men’s National Team Camp for the first ever U.S. Soccer Men’s Youth National Team Summit in January, 2018, that brought five youth national teams into the same camp in Florida.

The United States International was also called into the U-18 U.S. Youth National Team for two events in 2017, tournaments in Slovakia and Portugal.

Davis is one of nine newcomers for the Pioneers in 2018. Franks added six on National Signing Day in February, including Colorado Mesa transfer Moshe Perez, before welcoming Aston Villa Academy product Callum Stretch in March and Trelleborgs FF forward Dennis Werngren in June to the roster.

Denver finished 3-2 in its spring season, highlighted by a pair of 3-0 results at New Mexico and at Creighton and a 5-0 home win over Northwestern on College Soccer Saturday. Perez and senior striker Andre Shinyashiki both finished with four goals in the five-match spring season, followed by three goals from senior winger Kenny Akamatsu (Niigata, Japan). In Denver's 5-0 rout of Northwestern, Shinyashiki had two goals and two assists, while Perez added two goals and a helper.

The Pioneers will be in action on Saturday at No. 4 Akron for the first of two preseason friendlies. Denver hosts New Mexico next Wednesday (August 15) at 7 p.m. MT.
