MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (8/25/13)
-- Freshman Anna Mindling scored the first two goals of her collegiate career on Sunday afternoon as the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against the Central Michigan Chippewas at the CMU Soccer Complex.

Mindling scored her first collegiate goal for the Titans at the 9:19 mark of the first half. Mindling found a loose ball in front of the net after a great offensive play was produced by Abby McCollum and Kaitlyn Quarrell that created a shot opportunity and a long rebound that eventually found Mindling who made no mistake.

"Abby and Kate did all the work and I was in the right place at the right time to knock it in," said Mindling. "I was hanging in the spot waiting for it to pop out. Everybody had a lot of great pressure and I was in the right spot at the right time."

The score would remain 1-0 heading into the break on a day where the heat and wind were both factors in Mount Pleasant.

Central Michigan tied it up in the 53rd minute before Mindling took the ball and made a great shot to beat the CMU goalkeeper in the upper left half of the net. Her goal in the 81st minute made it 2-1 Detroit and gave the Titans a lead on the home town Chippewas.

The glory would not last long as CMU came right back 71 seconds later to tie the game which would end up as the final score.

Central Michigan had a 23-11 shooting advantage on the day, including 5-1 in both overtime periods, and CMU had eight corners to four for UDM.

The Titans split time in goal as freshman Laura Taylor saw her first collegiate action making the start. Taylor allowed zero goals making one save and sophomore Martha Dunbar played the second half and both overtime periods making six saves.

"It was great and a positive result for us. Everybody played well and we played good as a unit and we're getting there," said Mindling.

"We were better offensively and defensively from last game and I was pleased with everybody's effort from today," said UDM head women's soccer coach Mike Lupenec. "Central Michigan is always a tough place to play."

The Titans next game will be in California as the Titans will travel to play two games out west. UDM will play at Cal-Berkeley on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. ET and at San Francisco on Sept. 1 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
