Di Croce’s Two Goals the Difference Against Ospreys
MIAMI (Sept. 16, 2011) – The FIU men’s soccer team (3-2-2) boosted their overall record to above .500 behind two goals by senior Lucas Di Croce in a 2-1 victory against the North Florida Ospreys (1-5-1) Friday evening at the FIU Soccer Stadium in Miami, Fla.
FIU’s Di Croce struck first in the 29th minute of the match when he took a nice pass from freshman Quentin Albrecht in the box and flipped the ball past the keeper for his second goal of the season.
Di Croce added an insurance goal for the Panthers 10 minutes later when he chipped the ball over the North Florida keeper after he charged in and challenged Di Croce on the play. Senior Chris Lamarre was credited with the assist.
The Ospreys were able to keep the match close when, in the 48th minute, UNF’s Oscar Castillo buried the ball past a diving Eric Reyes for UNF’s only goal of the match.
The Panthers out-shot the Ospreys 19-7 while FIU goalkeeper Reyes recorded four saves. The two goals are a career high for Di Croce.
FIU will travel north to Atlanta, Ga. to face the Georgia State Panthers on Sunday, Sept. 18. Match time is set for Noon ET.
