FRESNO, Calif. ---The Fresno State soccer team shutout the Air Force Falcons 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Bulldog Stadium. This was the first-ever game and win for the Bulldogs in the Mountain West.

"We are thrilled to get off to a good start in the Mountain West," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "Most importantly was it was a team win where we used a lot of players in the heat the way it is. We knew it was going to be an important factor for us to keep the tempo where we wanted it. Air Force was a side that really pushed us hard and made us have to be smart to get a victory"

Once again the valley heat was blazing forcing the coaches to make many substituitions. 20 different Bulldogs saw action in today's match.

In the first half, the 'Dogs went on top when leading scorer and senior Callie Hancock found the back of the net in the 19th minute. Rachel Armstrong played a ball over the defender's head and Hancock corralled the ball and beat the keeper.

The score remained the same going into halftime with goalkeeper Katie DeVault making four saves in the first half.

The second half turned into the Shonice Myers show when she recorded not only her first, but her second career goal. In the 67thminute Myers shot the ball past the keeper unassisted to put the 'Dogs up 2-0. Less than four minutes later, she added to her total when Megan Mossman found heropen right in front of the goal and Myers put the ball past the goalie with a terrific angle. Myers now has two goals and three assists on the season.

"The idea of having another goal scorer to the mix, for a first time goal scorer and to get two of them was great for Shonice," said Zwaschka.

The 'Dogs had several other opportunities to extend the lead with multiple shots going off of the crossbar and posts.

Goalie Katie DeVault finished the day with four saves and recorded her second shutout of the year, increasing her career total to nine in just her first two years.

The 'Dogs face their first Mountain West road game at Wyoming on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. Fresno State will then return home to host two conference opponents in New Mexico on Friday, Oct. 12 and San Diego State Sunday, Oct. 14 in Bulldog Stadium.

"Every game is going to be a battle," said Zwaschka on Mountain West play. "We are definitely just going to take it one game at a time.
