FULTON, MO.—The Central College women’s soccer team recorded its seventh shutout of the season in a 4-0 win over Westminster (Mo.) on Tuesday night.

It is the second most shutouts in a single season for the Dutch. The 2004 team had eight.

Freshmen goalkeepers Sydney Lunardi (Bettendorf, Davenport Assumption HS) and Savana Robinson (Des Moines, Hoover HS) split the 90 minutes in the shutout. Robinson made one save in the second frame and the team was awarded one save, as well.

“It was nice to get another shutout,” coach Mike Kobylinski said. “All the credit goes to the backs and the goalkeepers. We used a lot of people on defense and they all played very well.”

Typically a midfielder, Julie Wunder (senior, Muscatine) played forward in tonight’s game and responded with two goals—the first less than two minutes into the game and the second less than four minutes into the second period. The goals were her fifth and sixth of the season, tied for second on the team. Forward Alayna Bailey (senior, Des Moines, Hoover HS) was credited with the game’s lone assist on the first goal.

“Julie played fantastic,” Kobylinski said. “We started her up top with Alayna today and she made plays. We were without a few players over the past few games, but we had Julie and Emily (Saville) back today. It was nice to be near full strength.”

Bailey scored her league-leading 13th goal of the season at 16:50 and forward Emily Saville (junior, Cedar Rapids, Linn-Mar HS) added her third goal of the season in the 34th minute for a 3-0 lead at the break.

“I am very pleased with the team effort tonight,” said Kobylinski. “It was not only the goal scorers, but the entire team and the substitutes played well. We were organized and executed the game plan. This is the type of performance we need to bring to conference play.”

The Dutch dominated the Blue Jays (3-8-1 overall) in shots (21-3), shots on goal (10-2) and corner kicks (8-1). Wunder led the offensive attack with seven shots, three on goal and two goals.

Central (9-3-1 overall, 1-1-1 IIAC) is back in conference action Saturday against Wartburg (5-6-1 overall, 2-1-0 IIAC). Last season the Knights defeated the Dutch 3-0 in Waverly. Wartburg is currently third in the conference standings, while Central is fourth.
