DUNBAR, Wis. -- A nearly 4-hour drive proved to be worth it for the Alverno College soccer team, as the Inferno departed northern Wisconsin with a 2-0 nonconference victory over host Northland International University.

Goalkeeper Samantha Robinson (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) secured her first shutout of the season, while Nava Moniriarani's (Oak Creek, Wis.) goal in the first minute of play proved to be the game winner for the Inferno (2-1 overall).

Moniriarani sailed a long free kick over the head of the Pioneers' (1-1) goalkeeper for her third score of the season, and the Inferno defense kept the Pioneers at bay.

Just 10 minutes later, Brittany Carpenter (Winneconne, Wis./Neenah) found Bryanna Gayle (Milwaukee/Riverside) near the edge of the box, and Gayle's low shot found the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

Robinson tallied four saves in the game on 10 Pioneer shots for her sixth-career shutout.

Alverno returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts Benedictine University in a Northern Athletics Conference game at 3:30 p.m.
