ECU Falls To Notre Dame, 5-0
Pirates Drop Second-Straight Road Match

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -
Rebecca Twining scored in the 35th minute of play and Notre Dame added four second-half goals cruising to a 5-0 victory over East Carolina Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. With the win the Irish improve to 2-1 on the young season, while the Pirates drop to 1-2.

The Irish took a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to Twining's 15-yard shot towards the top of the box and just out of reach of junior Pirate keeper Christiane Cordero. Twining recorded seven shots on the day, the second-most by Notre Dame, and netted her first goal of the season.

"In the end, Notre Dame had too much for us," said ECU Head Coach Rob Donnenwirth. "We had some chances to score and swing the momentum, but we couldn't recover when they scored their second goal."

Crystal Thomas netted the first of four goals in the second half for the Irish scoring in the 59th minute on a cross pass from Glory Williams. Lauren Bohaboy, who led all players with 10 shots, scored on a free kick from the left side of the box on a ball that curled inside the left post pushing the lead to 3-0. Anna Gilbertson and Karin Simonian added strikes in the final 20 minutes of play to cap the scoring at five.

Keepers Elyse Hight (three saves) and Sarah Voight (one save) combined for the second-straight Irish shutout stopping all four Pirate shots on goal.

Cordero faced 12 shots on the afternoon recording a season-best seven saves in all 90 minutes of play. For the third-straight game, senior Chrissy Gratz led the club with four shots (two on goal), while sophmore Lexi Miller and freshman Kelsie Halstenrud each added two shots.

Notre Dame out shot ECU 31-12 (12-4 on goal), while also leading in corner kicks 6-2.

The Pirates will be back in action on Friday, Aug. 31 when they play host to Davidson at 7 p.m. (ET) at the ECU Soccer Stadium.
