Elliott Rings the Belles for Game-Winner
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The sophomore duo of Kristin Elliott (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and Kate Wegert (Elmore, Ohio/Woodmore) gave the Trine University women’s soccer team their most MIAA conference wins ever as they defeated St. Mary’s College 1-0. The Thunder are now 4-13-2 overall and 2-11-2 in the conference.
While both squads had similar shot totals in each half, the Belles held a 10-4 shot on goal advantage for the afternoon.
The difference maker came just 1:21 into the second half. Elliott scored the game-winner on the first shot of the half as she took the shot from the baseline and got the ball over the Belles keeper and inside the far post.
Wegert earned her first win of the season as she shutout the St. Mary’s offense while making 10 saves.
Trine’s two conference wins this season doubles the total conference wins the Thunder had since joining the MIAA in 2004. The four total wins are the most for a Trine team since 2005.
Trine will wrap-up their season as they host Olivet College on November 1 for a 3:00 p.m. game.
