October 10, 2009
Less than four minutes into overtime, Dominic Reinold netted a goal from 17-yards out to give the Fairleigh Dickinson(m) men's soccer team a 3-2 win over host Saint Francis PA on Friday afternoon. The Knights improve to 4-7 for the season and 1-2 in Northeast Conference play, while the Red Flash fall to 4-7-1 overall, including a 0-2-1 mark in league action.
Paul King found Leslie Ayafor 17 minutes into the match to put FDU up, 1-0. Ayafor took a rebound and sent it into the lower left corner for his first goal of the season.
Twenty minutes later, Seamus Ryder headed it in to knot the match off a cross from David Butler. Butler scored in the 62nd minute to give the Red Flash the 2-1 advantage from 10-yards out into the upper left corner off a scramble.
But two minutes later, Reinold found the back of the net from 12 yards out off a header cross from King to tie up the match and send it into overtime.
In the extra period, Majdi Zaineh sent a tremendous punt across midfield, where Fernando Huthmacher tapped a pass towards the 18-yard box. Reinold split the defense and fired a shot that went over the head of Saint Francis goalkeeper Darius Motazed at 93 minutes, 47 seconds.
The goals were Reinold's fourth and fifth of the season. The Knights out-shot the Red Flash, 20-10, while Saint Francis held a 10-5 edge in corner kicks.
Zaineh made one save to earn the win between the posts for the Knights. Motazed made eight saves in net for the Red Flash.
"What a great game," said Head Coach Seth Roland. "It's a shame that anyone had to lose today. I'm really proud of the heart that our guys showed in finding a way to win.
