FDU Battles Saint Francis to 1-1 Draw

October 11, 2013

LORETTO, Pa. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 halftime against Saint Francis University to earn one point in the Northeast Conference standings, after battling the Red Flash to a 1-1 draw in the conference opener for both sides Friday night at DeGol Field. The Knights are now 7-3-1 (0-0-1 NEC) on the season, while SFU is 7-2-3 (0-0-1 NEC) overall.

FDU scored the game-tying goal four minutes after halftime when junior Nico Wright delivered long pass to fellow classmate Martin Lukaschik, who found the back of the net from approximately 20 yards out for his second goal of the season.

The Red Flash, who came in as the No. 1-ranked team in the NSCAA North Atlantic Poll and ranked in the top-30 nationally, took a 1-0 lead on Nick Kolarac's goal in the 27th minute, which beat Knights' senior goalkeeper Jacob Lissek on the right side.

Both sides recorded only two shots over the first 45 minutes, before FDU held a 6-5 advantage in the second half. The Knights dominated possession in the first overtime and held a 3-0 lead in shots while creating one great scoring chance, which resulted in freshman Christian Dietrich sailing his shot over the crossbar.

SFU came back with a 2-1 advantage in the second overtime and sophomore Sam Durkot's shot from almost 30 yards out just sailed over the crossbar in the 109th minute.

Lissek made two saves on the night between the pipes, while All-NEC goalkeeper Daniel Valciack made two saves for the Red Flash.

FDU will play its third straight game against a ranked NSCAA North Atlantic Region opponent when it faces No. 6 Robert Morris in an NEC contest on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. in Moon Township, Pa.
