FDU Blanks Saint Francis PA, 1-0, To Open Northeast Conference Play
The Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team opened Northeast Conference play Friday afternoon on the road by shutting out Saint Francis PA, 1-0, at Stokes Soccerplex in Loretto, PA. With the victory, the Knights improve to 5-2-1 (1-0-0 NEC) on the season, while the Red Flash fall to 4-4-1 (0-1-0 NEC) overall.
With no score heading into the 68th minute of play, freshman #Miguel Escobar# fired a shot off a rebound from the top left of the goal box to give the Knights a 1-0 lead which they would hold on to the rest of the second half. The goal was Escobar’s second of the season and second in as many matches.
FDU controlled much of the match offensively. They outshot the Red Flash, 17-5, including 8-1 in the first half and 9-4 in the second half. Eight of the Knights’ shot attempts were on goal. SFPA goalkeeper Darius Motazed turned away seven shots for the home team.
Sophomore goalie #Jacob Lissek# only had to make one save on the day as he recorded his second shutout of the season, while improving his record to 5-2-1.
The Knights will look to win their third-straight match and improve to 2-0 in the NEC when they head to Moon Township, PA to take on Robert Morris on Sunday, Oct. 2. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
