FDU Falls to UMBC, 1-0
September 4, 2011
The Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team dropped its first match of the season Saturday night to UMBC, 1-0, in Baltimore, MD at the Holiday Inn Express BWI Classic. With the victory, UMBC improves to 2-0-1 on the season, while the Knights pick up their first loss falling to 2-1-0 overall.
Andrew Bulls scored the lone goal of the game late in the 12th minute of the first half for the only score of the game.
FDU outshot the UMBC, 14-7, including 10-2 in the second frame.
Despite making four saves, sophomore Jacob Lissek was tagged with the loss in goal. Eight different Knights recorded shots on goal with sophomore Badir Sherman recording two.
Dan Louisgnau made nine saves in goal for UMBC.
“I thought we played really well tonight,” said Head Coach Seth Roland. “After the first twenty minutes we took the entire game to them as we placed them on their heels. We hit the post twice which made us a little unlucky. I am very proud with our performance tonight.”
The Knights will return to action on Friday, Sept. 9, with a road tilt at in-state rival Princeton. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
