FDU-Florham Storms Past Centenary
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – FDU-Florham scored six second-half goals and cruised to a 9-2 non-conference men's soccer victory over Centenary College Wednesday evening at Hackettstown High School.
The Devils (5-3-1) led the Cyclones (3-3-2) by just one at halftime after Centenary netted a pair of late first-half goals, but received goals from six different scorers in the second stanza to take control of the game.
With the Cyclones trailing by three and 15 minutes to play before halftime, freshman defender Kevin Brix (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) got Centenary on the board with his first collegiate goal. Brix collected a rebound following a free kick and knocked a shot past FDU goalkeeper Frank Maggiore.
Senior defender Reid Meeker (Phillipsburg, N.J./Notre Dame Green Pond) brought Centenary within one when he headed a ball into the back of the net off a corner kick feed from sophomore Sean Robinson (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) seven minutes later.
The second half would be all Devils as they collected 13 shots, scoring six times.
Senior goalkeeper Edward Medow (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) stopped five shots in net and Meeker recorded two shots on goal.
Andrew Ruane and Igor Petrovic both netted a pair of goals, while Maggiore made five saves for the Devils.
The Cyclones travel to Patchogue, N.Y., for their final non-conference match of the year Saturday against Briarcliffe (2:00 pm).
