FORT MYERS, Fla. – Coming off a record-setting season and NCAA Tournament Second Round appearance, the nationally-recognized FGCU men’s soccer team and new head coach Jesse Cormier have announced a quintet of upcoming spring and summer camp dates.
Each of the camps will take place on FGCU’s beach-lined campus during the following dates:
May 12-14: Spring High School Boys ID Camp
June 9-11: Summer High School Boys ID Camp
June 12-16: Boys Day Camp Session I
July 24-28: Boys Day Camp Session II
July 28-30: Preseason High School Boys ID Camp
Cormier – the former head coach at Vermont for 13 seasons and coming off an NCAA Tournament Second Round appearance of his own with the Catamounts – will lead each camp. He’ll be joined by several other collegiate head and assistant coaches, in addition to many former FGCU standouts and players who were instrumental in leading the Eagles to a top-15 national ranking throughout much of the 2016 season.
A descriptive breakdown of each camp is included below. For more information and to register, click on each camp title or visit www.GulfCoastFutbolAcademy.com.
This camp is designed for high-school aged players looking to experience the level of a NCAA Division-I program, including dynamic training sessions, an introduction to strength and conditioning and competitive games. Players will receive information regarding the NCAA eligibility process. The price of the camp does not include meals or housing; however, a list of local restaurants and group-rate hotel accommodations are available.
This camp features five days of excitement and challenge. The focus of training is enhancing a passion for the sport with a positive learning environment coupled with excellent skill training and fun competitions. This will give beginners to advanced players the opportunity to learn about the game and themselves alongside current and former FGCU standouts.
FGCU reached record heights this past season as the Eagles secured a program-record 14 wins as part of a 14-4-3 overall record, a program-best 10-game winning streak in the middle of the season and a national ranking for the final nine weeks of the year, including a program-high #11 showing in the NSCAA Poll on Oct. 18 and a #20 final ranking – the highest in D-I history of any program at FGCU.
The Eagles advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in six seasons of eligibility courtesy of another ASUN Championship, and broke through to the Second Round for the first time after defeating USF in penalty kicks. The Green and Blue eventually fell just short in double overtime – while playing with only 10 men – against a North Carolina team which played in the College Cup.
