FGCU Men's Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season with Trip to FIU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Bringing the 17-game regular season slate to a close on Friday, the FGCU men’s soccer team will travel to Miami, Fla. to take on FIU in one final non-conference tune-up before competing in postseason play for the first time in program history. The contest between the Eagles and Panthers is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kick-off.

The Eagles enter the match with a 10-4-2 mark on the season and finished atop the Atlantic Sun Conference standings with a 7-1 mark. Last Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla., the Green and Blue clinched their second consecutive A-Sun regular season title in a 4-1 rout of North Florida.

FGCU is 16-1 in the A-Sun the last two seasons, and will make its first-ever postseason appearance as the No. 1 seed at the conference tournament beginning on Nov. 9 in Johnson City, Tenn. With their No. 1 seed, the Green and Blue receive a bye into the semifinals where they will take on the winner of fourth-seeded Mercer and fifth-seeded Lipscomb.

Leading the offensive effort for the Green and Blue, senior midfielder Cristian Raudales (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee HS) holds 13 points on a team-best six goals while adding one assist. In his first season on campus, freshman forward Xavier Silva (Boca Raton, Fla./North Broward Preparatory School) has also provided quality minutes, sitting second on the team with 12 points on five goals, including a team-leading three game-winners, and a pair of assists. Each holding a pair of goals, senior midfielder Josey Portillo (Metairie, La./Grace King HS) has tallied a program single-season record seven assists, and junior William Morse (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements HS) has setup six goals this season.

A finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, redshirt senior goalkeeper Adam Glick (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley HS) has played 1123:19 minutes in net this season for the Eagles, totaling 44 saves while allowing 14 goals. His 1.12 goals against average currently ranks third in the A-Sun, while the .759 save percentage is also good for fourth in the league. Glick picked up his 32nd career victory with the 1-0 shutout over USC Upstate (Oct. 14). With three shutouts this season, the Leola, Pa. native sits third in A-Sun history with 19 and is just four away from the record set by Jeff Cassar of FIU (1992-95).

Freshman netminder Nathan Ingham (Ontario, Canada/Keswick HS) has made the last four starts for the Eagles, picking up victories in each contest. The newcomer has allowed four goals for a 0.99 GAA and has recorded 16 saves, highlighted by a pair of six-save outings against Belmont (Oct. 23) and Jacksonville (Oct. 27). Ingham added a three-save effort at UNF to help FGCU clinch the A-Sun regular season championship.

The all-time series between FGCU and FIU sits level at 2-2. Last season at the FGCU Soccer Complex, the Green and Blue’s took and early two-goal lead and held on for a 2-1 victory over the visiting Panthers.

FIU enters the competition holding a 4-8-4 overall record and a 1-5-2 mark in Conference USA. ¬¬Quentin Albrecht leads the Panthers with 12 points on five goals and two assists, while Colby Burdette and Lucas Di Croce have each score three goals this season. Eric Reyes (1036:08) and Rodney Greiling (503:07) have each seen time in net this season, totaling 63 saves and allowing 27 goals with a pair of shutouts each. Earlier this season, the Panthers defeated then-No. 21 Kentucky (Oct. 2), 1-0, in overtime, and played to a scoreless draws with then-No. 6 UCF (Oct. 11) and at then-No. 25 UAB (Oct. 29).
